MAGBEAT

WARNING - This game is currently in heavy alpha, so expect bugs. I also recommend downloading the binary as it's more stable and less prone to bugs resulting in audio/gameplay sync issues :)

MagBeat is half finger drumming practice app and half rhythm game. Learn to play basic beats and grooves with a backing track, and then playing them yourself with drum, melodic, and pad samples :D

Controls

By default the controls are as follows, but you can remap them in the settings menu, you can even map them to midi devices such as pad controllers!

The screen will automatically switch from wide to compact depending on the width of the screen/window, but they control a bit differently to it is heavily recommended to remap the controls to something you're comfortable with :)

Wide (Windows/Web)

Compact (Mobile)

BeatSaber Map Format

MagBeat has (experimental) support for the beatsaber map format. Still super alpha, but works for the most part (Some maps better than others).

You can import maps (In either BeatSaber or MagBeat formats) from the custom songs screen via file and/or URL depending on the platform

Or you can install them manually by unziping the map into the custom maps folder in:

%appdata%/MagBeat/custom_tracks/

Each song should be in it's own folder within that custom tracks location. Then when you launch MagBeat, it will recursively scan for these and add them to the new Custom track type in game.

This was mostly just a learning thing for me, I wanted to see how other games format their map files and I also wanted a known baseline to start to work towards a better beat tracking implementation, and there is still a bunch of stuff to do to make it the way I want it (Such as displaying the mappers name clearly), which will largely make up the next alpha release.

Nice game, but for the desktop version of the game, I would suggest making the default keys not Q,A,W,S,E,D (as ithis implies I only have my left hand to play), but something like 3 buttons for my left hand and 3 for my right hand, like for example A,S,D and J,K,L or maybe even 6 adjacent keys.

Nice rhythms and beats though :D

Hey thanks for the feedback, and that's a great point!

It was originally designed for a phone resolution and midi controllers, but I think you are 100% right so I've changed the default mapping to QWE IOP. It's a bit awkward on the more compact pad layout, but that's designed for touch screens anyway so it just makes sense.

Thanks again for the feedback!
